In this passage we see Jesus as a miracle worker. The first incident is that of the healing of the centurion’s servant; the second is that of the raising the dead son of the Jewish widow of Nain.  The story of the centurion’s faith is both significant and relevant to us. Our Lord made a point of commending his faith. This man was a Gentile, not a Jew, and yet he put the Jews to shame in this matter of faith. Few things are more needed in our individual lives and in the life of the church than a vital, growing faith. The centurion’s faith serves both as a stimulus and as a model for Christians of all ages.
