We build up disciples, found churches and further the Kingdom.
Jesus is the great Teacher and He teaches us about God’s heart for the lost. In Rembrandt’s famous painting “The Return of the Prodigal Son” he focuses on the father’s younger son in Jesus’ parable. But by composition and lighting, the artist causes us rightfully to focus on the father—his face lined by longsuffering, his body bent toward his kneeling son, his hands gently embracing his ragged boy. Some people stress the sins and repentance of the young man so much that the father’s compassion and celebration fade away. His repentance is important. But in Jesus’ parable it is the suffering, then rejoicing father who dominates the picture.
