The remnant of Israel knows they do not stand a chance to make it in Jerusalem without the help of God, so they are getting very honest with God and renewing their covenant with him. This is one of the more serious moments in Israel’s history, before or after the exile. They are recognizing that everything they have belongs to God and they had better be good stewards of what he has given them.
